The theme of Multicultural Health Week 2021 (1-7 November) is cancer screening. Small grants of up to $1,000 are being offered to local health districts and non-government/community organisations to support community engagement activities with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, focussing on increasing knowledge of and confidence in participating in cancer screening.
Successful grant recipients will conduct community engagement activities with the support of bilingual health professionals and/or trained bilingual community educators (BCE) that focus on the three national screening programs: National Bowel Cancer Screening Program; BreastScreen Australia Program; and National Cervical Screening program.
It is important that a health professional or a trained BCE is present at the activity to ensure accurate delivery of information to the community and appropriate referral of community members to health services. The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) can assist in linking you with an appropriate person if required.
Community engagement activities must include dissemination of information about all three programs but may include an emphasis on one or more of the above programs.
Applications close: 30 August 2021.
